Love is in the air

Love is in the air at Stockland Merrylands

It’s that time of year again, Valentine’s Day is coming up on Thursday 14th February. Preparing for Valentine’s Day can be nerve-wracking, but can be approached in a step-by-step manner that’ll assure you make your sweetheart feel special.  You can show your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife or friend how much you care. Here’s your top ten list of things to remember to do to make the day extra special.

1. If you’re going out, book your restaurant early

Dinner dates are a big part of romance and love. Valentine’s Day is a special day that can bring two new lovers closer, or rekindle the love of a seasoned romance. When you’re in a new relationship, you may want to spend an evening at a fancy restaurant. And when you’re in an older romance, you may want to try a nice local place together to keep the relationship exciting and new. Whether you’re dining out style is canoodling by a candlelit dinner or sitting by a sushi train, having a slice of pizza or enjoying a Pad Thai – don’t forget to book your table in advance.

+ Sushi Bay Merrylands  – Print off this page, or show this page on your mobile device to receive 10% Valentine’s Day discount. For photo lovers, Sushi Bay is also holding a photo competition in the store – ask instore for full details.

Restaurants to consider for dinner (located on McFarlane Street): Crust Pizza, Mashawi, Monaco Bar & Grill, Moon Light Bakery & Café, Mrs Wongs Chinese and Thainabox.

Cafes within Stockland Merrylands to consider for lunch or coffee and cake: Caffe Cherry Beans, Coffee Chooo, Dahlias Café, Donut King, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, Jessys, Krema Bar, Michel’s Patisserie, Sergios Cake Shop, The Coffee Club and The Coffee Emporium.

2. If you’re staying in and cooking up a storm, make your dining area romantic

If you’re planning on cooking up a romantic meal at home, here are some tips to create the perfect romantic atmosphere:

  • Begin with simple, yet stylish decor in mind. Dig out the good china that’s been handed down from Grandma and select a colour scheme.
  • Pick some pretty flowers that match your chosen colour scheme. Remember that you want to be able to look lovingly into each other’s eyes, so avoid large or tall arrangements.
  • Set your table formally just like a five star restaurant would. Remember to include different cutlery for entrée, mains and dessert. If you’re having dinner rolls, don’t forget a bread plate and knife.
  • Light some candles for romance. Small scattered tea lights will keep your view of your partner open and create a romantic glow.
  • Use attractive serving dishes or serve the food onto plates from the kitchen – make sure you keep pots and pans out of sight.
  • Relax and enjoy yourself, try to avoid stressing over the little things. Your partner will realise how much work you’ve put into the evening, so don’t sweat the small stuff.

5. Write a love letter or card

It’s not always easy to express our feelings to the people we love most. It’s so much easier to show our love through actions. Isn’t how we feel already obvious? Surely they already know what we feel for them? A sweet way to express your love is by writing a love letter. Here are some tips for writing your Valentine’s Day card or love letter:

  • Recall a romantic memory (‘I was thinking today about when you and I….’)
  • Tell them what you love about them (‘I love the way you…and….’)
  • Tell them about how they made you feel (‘when you….you really make me feel…..’)
  • Explain about how your life changed when they came into your life.
  • Write a draft and let the words flow out, when you’re ready, write your words into the card or on paper.
  • Be honest, and speak from the heart.
  • If you want to be cheeky, remember to be cute (and not crude).
  • End your letter sharing your hopes for your future together.
  • Finally, remember there aren’t any mistakes in a love letter.

Pick up your cards or nice paper from: Newsxpress, and Typo.

6. Make something homemade
Handmade cupcakes are always a winner – the more delicious, the better. Surprise your sweetheart with homemade and home-decorated cupcakes. The ones below were decorated from a Valentine’s Day cupcake pack from Typo. Allow 15 minutes to prep, half an hour in the oven and don’t forget to fit in some bowl licking time.

7. Advice for the singletons?
Easy, grab your girlfriends, stock up on your favourite snacks and watch a DVD, or curl up with a good book.

Where to pick up your DVDs: JB Hi Fi, Big W, Kmart and Target. Where to pick up a books: Your Bookstore, Big W, Kmart and Target.

8. Guys, buying some lingerie for your girl.

Buying lingerie can be a mine field for guys. Forget the style and colour – that comes later – the first step when choosing lingerie for your Valentine is to get the size right. Once you have the size, write it down, bring in a current photo of your girl, and let the ladies at Bras N Things help you select a style suitable for your lady’s size, shape and style.

Where to pick up your lingerie: Bras N Things.

9.  Nothing beats a dozen red roses

Roses are the traditional gift given on Valentine’s Day. The color of a rose can have a very different meaning from what you intend. Red roses proclaim “I love you”, they are the ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion. Yellow roses indicate friendship – so don’t send them if your intentions are romantic and long-lasting. So guys, if you have love on the mind, then red roses are the way to go!

Special offer:

Flowers for Everyone – Valentine’s Day special, 12 Premium red roses in the signature box [as pictured] for only $99. For guaranteed delivery order by Wednesday February 13th or pick up on the day 14th. Offer valid instore, delivery fee additional. Flowers for Everyone, located at the McFarlane Street entrance, adjacent to The Coffee Emporium and Bakers Choice.

10. Remember, the best things in life are free.
Sometimes the best things in life are free. A kiss on the cheek, breakfast in bed and a nice smile and cuddle go a long way. Or catching up with friends old and new or just taking some time out for yourself.

Happy Valentine’s Day. Stockland Merrylands will be open until 9pm this Valentine’s Day, Thursday 14 February 2013.

Happy new year Merrylands

Stockland Merrylands would like to wish you a Happy New Year on behalf of the staff and retailers at Stockland Merrylands.

It’s been a long and fantastic year. Together we’ve celebrated the finale of the redevelopment, we’ve commemorated the Grand Opening of your shopping centre, we’ve welcomed over 60 new stores, we’ve cooked food from the community cookbook ‘Slice of Life’ and so much more.

We’re a strong and proud community, and the secret is out. The rest of Sydney is beginning to realise what we’ve all known for years. This community is the very best combination of all that’s great in Sydney – great people, culture, diversity, food, family, and we have one thriving sense of community.

Happy New Year. Tell us in the comments field below – what was your favourite part of 2012, and what will you remember most?
